Threat: A period of accumulating snow and sleet that will cause slippery travel conditions.
Impacts: Snow and sleet accumulation 1-3 inches.
Timing: 3 PM Thursday through Late Thursday night
A strong ridge of high pressure will build in today, and a few flurries and snow showers will accompany the arrival of the coldest air so far this season. This fresh injection of cold air, along with another developing low pressure system moving up from the Gulf Coast will bring a period of snow to the region late Thursday. Easterly winds will increase as this low intensifies along the mid-Atlantic coast Thursday evening. This will bring in enough milder air for a quick transition to rain at the coast, with a more gradual transition to sleet and eventually rain inland. Some snow accumulations are likely region
wide before any changeover.
