We’re more than halfway through April and across the Atlanta metro, this year nearly stands alone in terms of extreme drought. The following chart gives some perspective:

Aside from the notorious drought year of 2007, no other year will come close assuming we don’t see any significant rainfall between now and the end of the month.
The prospects aren’t great in the near future. On Saturday, waie have an approaching cold front. This should help knock down are unseasonably warm temperatures for the second half of the weekend. Outside of far NW Georgia; however, the precipitation chances are paltry:

So expect the fire danger statements to continue. Some relief from the hot early season temperatures will arrive for a few days from Sunday into early next week, but the meaningful break in the dry pattern is not yet seen.
