Weather Discussion – Dec. 8, 2011

Zonal 500 MB flow in the east, and a big ridge out off the pacific northwest are the major players right now. That storm that brought all the unsettled weather in the last 36 hours is a monster over Canada. According to the HPC analysis the storm deepened explosively from the cape on up into Novia Scotia – we even had some reports of a 69 MPH wind gust on the east end of Long Island early this morning.

The surface low continues to lose it’s influence as a high builds in just to the southwest. Winds will become lighter and temperatures will remain cool during much of the period. Watching a clipper system associated with a pulse of upper level energy going into the first part of the weekend, although that looks to affect mainly far northern parts of the region.
