Partial sunshine and seasonable today. Clouds increase this afternoon with rain showers developing and lasting into the overnight period. Some of the rain will be locally heavy. Sunshine returns for the middle of the week, with some more showers possible by Saturday as another cold front approaches.
Discussion: Approaching upper level energy will trigger some increased cloud coverage and another round of rain this evening. With a stationary front boundary still stiting to the south of long island, look for a few waves of low pressure to ripple along the front this afternoon into tonight. As the trough departs to the east, 500mb heights will begin to build due a large ridge currently occupying much of the central CONUS beginning to push east. Some more upper level energy approaches from our west near the end of the week, which will bring another frontal system into the area.
